Social Media is now being used on multiple levels – to name just a few:
1. Strengthening a businesses brand and online presence
2. Building up a trustworthy community
3. Assisting in connecting team members, raising the awareness of staff talent and interests
4. Providing another avenues in delivering outstanding customer service.
I am a big believer that when a business is innovative and embraces new and creative avenues when expressing their message, then they will always reap the rewards. There are so many businesses out there right now that have the same opportunity as everyone else yet some take the opportunity by the horns, whilst others lag behind. Whether it’s a fear of change or they are too lazy to change the routine, I’m not sure, yet the point of this post is to highlight a business that is adopting a new way of recruiting staff….and THAT my friends raises my heart rate above 100BPM!!! So we have talked about how the big brands like Ford and Virgin are leveraging and nailing this social media space, let’s drill down to a smaller Melbourne based company.
Sportsnet Holidays are a perfect example of a company who are embracing new avenues to achieve a specific goal. I love how they are rolling out their latest recruitment strategy. It’s personable, authentic and cutting edge. Who could not want a job there!!!
Check out the video and the authenticty of the Founder and Director Rob Cecconi and AB as they speak from the heart. AB even gets interupted via the gong and still proceeds on! I love it – it’s raw, natural and catchy.
Every business has this opportunity that Sportsnet Holidays have utlised, yet how many are really doing it??? How many businesses are changing the game, mixing up the routine, taking a step out of their comfort zone or embracing their creative side??? I wanna know!
Good on ya Sportsnet Holidays, I trust you will inspire many other businesses to think and ACT in the way you have in this powerful social media space.
I’m now throwing it out to the floor, what are your thoughts here ?

As you mentioned Social media is a very active and critical customer care and feedback channel! not everyone could create presence on social media networks. If I am on social media I have to be 100% transparent and have nothing to hide from my clients/customers! Social Media makes all corporates Transparent!
If you hear a lot about a certain business on social media, then they have nothing to hide and I think you can trust them! If you felt that they have limited or no presence then a HUGE “?” should be place over their heads!
Well said Sam!
Best,
Steit
Great way to use social media.
I think that the viral aspect of a YouTube video would be a lot greater than an ad in the local news paper to. – thus getting more exposure for less money.
It’s the versatility of social media and how it can be used.
Recruitment, promotion, information, feedback…social media covers the lot almost. That’s probably one of the best innovations of the space right there. You can get your message out and enable people to know who you are and your values…and it’s a space where you have to be accountable for those values.
Done right, it’s a great way to do business.
It’s also fun, because you can come up with creative ways of doing things like the video above. I love that gong.
Above all else, social media is a game-changer.
I’m pretty much going to echo George here, but It’s a brilliant use of social media, and it shows that the company knows what’s current, and how to use it.
Great way to express the attitude of the company and workers, as well as showing what they need.
I actually got a really good vibe about Sportsnet Holidays and forwarded this onto a friend!
I like your 4 points Sammy. And I agree that there are more. We’re currently doing some research on just this, so when I get to Melbourne, we’ll sit and chat about it.
Seeing how social nets are enabling business growth is very interesting. There’s certainly nothing new about it. Clustering has enabled small businesses to not just grow, but be come market leaders – think Silicon Valley and the Italian shoe industry. What is exciting about it is how people like yourself are crossing different virtual social groups to accelerate that growth and increase business reach.

Wow, thanks guys for taking the time to comment. You all raise valid points here. It’s an exciting time for business right now, and it’s so refreshing to see companies taking it to a whole new level.
If you happen to stumble across any other small businesses using the space well then I’d love to know.
Thanks Tim – I’m keen to catch up with you when you get here.
